Brockton and Bishop's Castle Harvest Donation

For their Harvest Service collection this year, those at Brockton and Bishop’s Castle churches aimed to raise £120 -the sum that would feed a family in India for a whole year.

The family they are helping are Liji and her two daughters, Lakshya and Daksha. Aged 7 and 5. Three years ago Liji had a stroke which left her mute and unable to move one leg and one hand. She has difficulty eating and talking. However, hospital treatment has restored some movement and speech. Following this, Liji’s husband left her. Liji and her daughters now live with Liji’s widowed mother, Yesinda (who is supported by Workfare,) and Yesinda’s mother-in-law (who has a tiny, pension,) but Liji is dependent on charity to live, and to purchase everyday household items like cooking utensils. Last January, a visit from Health Help International led to the family receiving financial assistance towards Liji’s medicine and the family's food. This has made a huge difference to them. Brockton and Bishop’s Castle churches raised over £60, and with some donations still to come, they are well on the way to assisting Liji and her family,

The Harvest Service was followed by a bring and share Harvest Tea. Church Steward and Rainbow Gang youth group leader, Elisabeth Knight commented, "We send through a small volunteer-run charity Health Help International  so we know our money is going directly to people who desperately need this help."
